Can changing the shape of a goal change the game?

Role and collaboration

An octagonal football goal with colourful cords stands in a garden.

I designed a football goal that challenges the familiar rectangular form.

Green cords are tied around a post in the goal frame.
The cords attached to the frame.

The form of the goal is based on the pattern of a football. Bringing the shape of the ball into the goal creates a new visual relationship between the two.

White, yellow, red and green cords form overlapping patterns in the goal.
Colours and lines connect the forms of the ball and the goal.

The project explores how an unfamiliar goal might challenge expectations of the game and encourage people who do not usually play football to take part. How does it change the experience of shooting at the goal or defending it?
