The exhibition explored the life and work of sculptor Gerður Helgadóttir (1928–1975), a pioneer of abstract sculpture and glass art in Iceland.

Five themes connected periods of her life with different aspects of her practice. Foundation traced her studies and early experiments in Paris. Studio explored her abstract iron sculptures. Window brought together stained glass and her growing interest in mysticism. Garden focused on works in concrete, plaster and clay. Space examined her public artworks and proposals for different settings.
The exhibition drew on the collection of around 1,400 works donated to Kópavogur by her heirs in 1977. Gerðarsafn opened in 1994 in her memory. The exhibition marked the 90th anniversary of her birth and received support from Safnasjóður.
