Memento Mori

A clock inside a wooden box: time is heard rather than seen.

Role and collaboration
Concept and design: Friðrik Steinn Friðriksson.
Material
Wood
A wooden box with visible growth rings and a winding key on its side.

A ticking clock makes the passing of time audible. Memento Mori explores how that familiar sound can become a quiet reminder of our own mortality.

I chose wood for the way it changes with age and carries traces of time. The concept includes a mechanism wound with a key, making the act of keeping the clock running part of the experience.
